Effective Supervision
AIMS, OBJECTIVES and LEARNING OUTCOMES
TARGET AUDIENCE
Those people whose work activities require them to carry out supervisory / team leader duties and within those work activities are expected to complete on site inspections of frontline waste operations whilst they are taking place.AIMS
- To provide an understanding of the 1974 Health & Safety at Work act
- To provide an understanding of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
- To provide an understanding of hazard, risk and control measure
- To provide an understanding of the risk assessment & risk evaluation process
- To provide knowledge of how to complete on-site inspections with a view to ensuring operational compliance with good, health & safety, practice
- To provide the knowledge required to support and maintain a positive health & safety culture in the work place
OBJECTIVES
- To provide knowledge of the 1974 Health & Safety at Work act in the context of waste management operations
- To provide knowledge of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 in the context of waste management operations
- To provide an understanding of the risk assessment and risk evaluation process in the context of waste management operations
- To raise awareness of actions which may constitute a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act
- To provide examples of actions which would constitute a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act
- To provide knowledge of existing publications that contain good practice guidance
- To provide knowledge of the actions required to set a positive example to colleagues engaged in frontline operations
- To provide an opportunity for candidates to take part in the following group activities;
- hazard identification
- risk assessment exercise
- risk evaluation exercise
- implementing control measures
- processes required to implement corrective action
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to;
- Understand the 1974 Health & Safety at Work act in the context of waste management operations
- Understand the of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 in the context of waste management operations
- Identify hazards, risks and control measures
- Identify the component parts of the risk assessment processes
- Identify the actions of frontline operatives which would breach the 1974 Health & Safety at Work act
- Identify the actions of frontline operatives which would breach training information and good practice guidance
- Implement corrective measures when poor performance is identified
- Recognise opportunities to reduce risks and improve the safety of waste operations
- Find publications which explain health & safety legislation
- Find publications which explain good practice within waste management operations
- Understand the personal measures required to demonstrate a positive example to colleagues engaged in frontline operations
- Implement good health and safety practice within waste collection operations
- Recognise opportunities to promote a positive health & safety culture within the work place
