Reversing Assistant
AIMS, OBJECTIVES and LEARNING OUTCOMES
TARGET AUDIENCE
- Those people whose work activities require that they provide assistance to vehicle drivers during vehicle manoeuvring operations.
- Vehicle drivers whose work activity requires that they manoeuvre vehicles within the context of waste operations.
AIMS
- To provide an understanding of today’s good practice guidance for manoeuvring vehicles with the context of waste operations
- To provide knowledge of the actions required by each member to keep themselves and others safe whilst completing and supporting vehicle manoeuvring operations
- To provide knowledge of the accidents that can happen if good practice is not followed
OBJECTIVES
- To provide knowledge of the waste industry accident record in relation to vehicle manoeuvring
- To provide an understanding of the actions required by each member to keep themselves and others safe whilst completing and supporting vehicle manoeuvring operations
- To provide knowledge of the responsibilities of the vehicle driver and supporting team members when undertaking vehicle manoeuvring operations
- To help candidates identify areas of high risk when supporting vehicle manoeuvring operations
- To provide an understanding of the hand signals needed to support safe vehicle manoeuvring
- To provide an opportunity for candidates to practice reversing assistant duties within a controlled environment
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to;
- Understand the actions required of each individual team member when completing vehicle manoeuvring operations
- Understand how their actions can help minimise the impact of street collection operations on members of the public and other road users
- Identify the accidents that may occur if vehicle manoeuvring operations are not completed in accordance with good practice guidance
- Explain how their individual actions contribute towards the safe operations of a waste collections team
- Recognise opportunities to reduce the risks and improve the safety of street collection operations
- Understand the individual actions, of each collection team member, necessary to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Implement good health and safety practice within waste collection operations
