Safe Working Practices - Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF) – INDUCTION
AIMS, OBJECTIVES and LEARNING OUTCOMES
TARGET AUDIENCE
Those people who are about to start work in a Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF)This training course would be suitable for casual / temporary / agency staff, providing pre-engagement awareness of the good practice measures required in street collection operations.
AIMS
- To provide knowledge and understanding of the operations of an MRF
- To provide knowledge of the safety requirements required when working in an MRF
OBJECTIVES
- To provide an understanding of the employers and employees responsibilities within the Health and Safety at Work Act
- To raise awareness of actions which may constitute a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act
- To explain basic personal health and safety requirements when working in an MRF e.g. PPE
- To provide an understanding of how MRF’s operate (using video footage)
- To raise awareness of the type of accidents that can occur when working in an MRF
- To help candidates identify areas of high risk within MRF operations
- To provide an awareness of specific health and safety procedures that may operate within an MRF. The subjects would be explained:
- Lock-off procedures
- Entry into confined spaces
- Traffic / Pedestrian interaction
- Plant cleaning and maintenance protocol
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to;
- Understand the basic function of an MRF
- Understand the complex mechanical operations of an MRF
- Understand how their individual actions contribute towards the safe operations of an MRF
- Identify the typical safety routines required when completing plant cleaning and maintenance operations
- Recognise the actions required when dealing with unplanned incidents
- Recognise opportunities to reduce the risks and contribute towards safe MRF operations
- Support good health and safety practice within MRF operations
